Conversations on the Couch: Grief
This year we’ve been incubating the idea of Conversations on the Couch – sitting down together with coffee and cake and talking about what’s real. What’s on our hearts. How we really are. Because there should be more spaces where we can give an honest answer to ‘how are you?’
Conversations on the Couch is not a workshop in which we are teaching content. It’s a coming together as fellow humans, with our NVC tools in our bags, where we get to be real together. It’s a moment of respite from the hectic world we’re caught up in, the masks we have to put on and the pressure to go, go, go.
Our first Conversations on the Couch, held in August 2026, had the theme of grief. Because we don’t talk about it enough and we often don’t know how to talk about it. It’s often unnamed, unseen and hidden even from ourselves.
Conversations on the Couch was presented as an in-person event at Torbay on August 16 and as an on-line conversation on August 23.
What else is on in 2026?
OTHER ACTIVITIES
We are really excited to share our new resources with conversation leaders in any sector - corporate, community, not-for-profits, teams, families and individuals, as well as with NVC trainers.
We would love to show you and your team through our newest resource, the transforming judgements A5 floor card set, which we call the Fake Feelings Training Cards. Using everyday language, the cards enable people to see when they are using a word as a judgement, rather than simply expressing their needs in a situation.
Whether it’s in the room during coaching sessions, team meetings, or tricky conversations, teams are finding it so useful to keep people connected. The bright visuals and the ease of seeing what language to change is in plain sight!
We’ll be using the new cards and all of our TYP resources in our training events. We are planning a variety of workshops ranging from half a day to two days, taking place in Perth or Albany.
We will continue to support schools, organisations and communities across Australia in 2026 as we have in recent years in Albany, Perth, Margaret River, Melbourne and regional Victoria. Take a look at our partners and their feedback.
Resources
Resources to help in life and learning
Feelings and Needs Desk Cards
We use Feelings and Needs cards to help people find the words to express how they feel and what they need. Feelings and Needs cards promote empathy and emotional literacy. They can be used as conversation starters, casual check-ins or for deeper exploration of communication matters.
Take a look at this short demonstration.
Our playing card-size set of 44 Feelings cards and 44 Needs cards is the standard tabletop resource for individuals and trainers. A set costs $35 on order from Talk Your Peace, plus postage. Discounts may apply for larger orders.
Feelings and Needs Desk Starter Set
For learning and exploring NVC in schools and similar settings, our Starter Set of 16 Feelings and Needs cards are available at $25 each. Discounts apply for classroom sets of 24.
New: Redflag Floor Cards
Judgmental thoughts can often masquerade as feelings. We offer trainers a set of A5 (210mm x 148mm) cards that help to reveal the deceptive nature of these fake feelings. We call them redflag cards because they reveal a need for caution in the conversation ahead and provide an opportunity to identify real feelings. A set comprises 50 cards that sample redflag words, real feelings and related needs. The pack includes a user guide. Redflag Floor Cards cost $100 per set.
Want to see how to use Redflag cards? Take a look at our demo.
Conversation Leader Pack
The Talk Your Peace Conversation Leader Pack is a communication resource for workplace leaders, NVC trainers and conversation leaders in community and organisational settings. It comprises:
• Set of Feelings and Needs Cards (standard 44+44 deck)
• Set of A5 Training Cards (50-card selection of Redflag, Feelings and Needs)
• Identifying Redflag Words A4 handout
• Connection Trail A3 training set (four sheets)
• Connection Trail A4 handout
• User Guides
Our Conversation Leader Pack is produced on robust card or nevertear paper to withstand repeated use. The A3 Connection Trail sheets are used as floor maps to guide people through communication practices.
Purchase of the Conversation Leader Pack ($275) includes permission for reproduction of handouts.
